Dialogue in Diversity: A new media platform for cross-cultural dialogue.

(Waterford's Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Seamus Ryan, attends Afroradio.net's Media Launch)

Afroradio is a non-profit community media project which seeks to promote dialogue, integration and mutual understanding between the immigrants and the host Irish communities across Ireland. The Media Launch of Afroradio has been scheduled as an event that officially launches the project  with the aim of gaining media coverage and press awareness.  The event, which has the Deputy Mayor of Waterford - Cllr. Seamus Ryan - as the guest of honour, has been scheduled as follows:

Event:     Media Launch

Date:       Thursday 14th April, 2011

Venue:     Edmund Rice Centre, Barrack Street, Waterford

Time:       6.00pm - 7.30pm

The members, volunteers and trustees of Afroradio have been working behind the scenes for the past one year.  They have been establishing a solid foundation from which they can act on their vision of creating a broadbased platform for cross-cultural communication.  It is believed that dialogue in the diversity  in our communities is a requisite for mutual understanding and genuine integration. This is the focus of this new media platform - afroradio.net. Its aims are achieved through music, interviews, discussions, talk shows, news and current affairs, especially as concerns people, issues and places that are normally ignored by the mainstream media.

Mr. John Halligan, TD, believes the idea of Afroradio is necessary for "promoting integration in a multicultural Ireland while helping to keep in mind your own culture".

This media project targets a mixed local, national and global audience, and is the recepient of  the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Edmund Rice (International) Heritage Centre in Waterford.
